Aborting Backup.

Cause
  • This warning is given typically when the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) is unable to run due to another instance of VSS already running.
  • When Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) and Backup Exec (BE) backup conflicts.
Solution
BE jobs use Microsoft VSS service and BESR jobs use Symantec SymSnap VSS provider.
To resolve this issue, unregister the Symantec SymSnap VSS provider and BESR will also use the Microsoft VSS service.
  1. Stop the Microsoft VSS service.
  2. Open a CMD window (Start > Run > cmd > <enter>).
  3. Change directories to the BESR Drivers folder (cd "\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec System Recovery\Shared\Drivers").
  4. At the prompt, type these commands and press <enter>:
    • VssProviderInstall.exe -unregister "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider" "Symantec SymSnap VSS Provider"
  5. Start the Microsoft VSS service and reboot the computer.
  6. Run a test backup job to confirm resolution
